Policy Statement
The [Condominium Name] Council is committed to providing a living environment free from discrimination and harassment for all residents, owners, guests, employees, and contractors. This policy is in accordance with all applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws, including the Canadian Human Rights Act and the British Columbia Human Rights Code.
Scope
This policy applies to all activities and interactions within the condominium community, including but not limited to:
Residency applications and approvals
Lease agreements and renewals
The use of common areas and facilities
Interactions between residents, owners, guests, employees, and contractors
Council meetings and decisions
Prohibited Grounds of Discrimination
Discrimination based on the following grounds is strictly prohibited:
Race
Colour
Ancestry
Place of origin
Religion
Marital status
Family status
Physical or mental disability
Sex
Sexual orientation
Gender identity or expression
Age
Conviction for an offence for which a pardon has been granted
Definitions
Discrimination: Any action or decision, whether intentional or not, that imposes burdens or denies benefits to a person or group based on a prohibited ground.
Harassment: Any unwelcome conduct, comment, gesture, or contact that is based on a prohibited ground and that creates a hostile or offensive environment.
Responsibilities
Council Members: Will uphold this policy and take all necessary measures to prevent and address discrimination and harassment.
Residents and Owners: Will treat all members of the community with respect and refrain from any discriminatory or harassing behavior.
Employees and Contractors: Will abide by this policy in all interactions with residents, owners, and guests.
Procedures
Complaint Procedure: Any person who believes they have been discriminated against or harassed may file a complaint with the Council in writing. The Council will investigate all complaints promptly and confidentially.
Resolution: The Council will take appropriate action to resolve all complaints, which may include mediation, education, or disciplinary measures.
Enforcement: The Council reserves the right to take disciplinary action against any person found to have violated this policy, up to and including termination of residency or employment.
Accommodation
The Council will make reasonable accommodations to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities, unless doing so would impose undue hardship.
Review
This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as needed to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
